Guesthouse Room Booklet

Our purpose is to to run a home for Guests in our Boutique styled Guest House. We have a small close knit community of staff who aim to make your stay with us comfortable and enjoyable. We provide Bed and Breakfast and by arrangement evening meals. The information that follows is complimentary to our website and details what you can expect to find at the Groveside, in addition to this we are always available to provide further information either by telephone or email.

If we do not have a car how can we get to you?

By Bus: There is a regular bus service from Exeter bus station to Sidmouth. In summer the bus service meets certain main trains at Honiton railway station but Guests are advised to consult Stagecoach. Tel: 01392 427711, or your local railway station for details. The Groveside is about 300 yardsfrom the bus stop which is near the Radway cinema.

By Coach: National Express Services from all parts of the country to Exeter. Contact tel: 08705 808080 or visit National Express.

By Rail: Fast trains from the Midlands and the North to Exeter St Davids, from London (Paddington) to Exeter St Davids, and from London (Waterloo) to Honiton. Call National Rail Enquiries on tel: 08457 484950 or visit National Rail Enquiries for further information.

By Air: Exeter Airport is 30 minutes from Sidmouth. Scheduled services for domestic and international flights.

By Foot: Accessible via the South West Coast Path which runs along the entire length of the Jurassic Coast.

And if we are coming by car?

By Road: The A3052 goes straight to Sidmouth. If travelling south on A303 join A30 exit at Honiton and follow signs A375 to Sidmouth.

Arrival and car parking facilities

On arrival at the Groveside there is an open entrance which leads to the front, side and rear of the property where you will find marked parking bays. The surface is flat level and gravelled. We will assist with luggage to and from the bedrooms.

Main entrance and Reception

There are two steps leading to the front door these are 15cm (6in) high. The front door with a push bell to the right of it is normally open but the inner door is kept locked for security reasons. Here you will also find a bell to the right of the door.

On entry into our home there is a 2 metre by 12 metre carpeted hall, where you access a comfortable lounge for you to be welcomed by your hosts and for you to sign the register.

Public Area - General information

The stairs and landing and corridors are covered by a red short pile carpet which contrasts with the light covered walls. The stairs are 8cm high (7in) 16cm (10in) deep and 99cm (35in) wide.

We do not have any ground floor bedrooms. There are 15 stairs that lead to The folk room (double) and the Jazz room (double). 3 more steps and a short landing lead you to the red room the Blues room (twin), the King room(king bed) and the Mauve room (double). There are then a further 17 steps to the 2nd floor and three more bedrooms, the Byes room (double), the Park room(continental twin) and the loft room (single).

Public area - WC

During low season there is a public WC available on the first floor.

Breakfast/dining room

This sunny room is situated on the Ground floor next to the stairs.

Tables have underspace of 62cm (24 in) and a height of 73 cm (29in)(legs on each corner)Tables can be moved and joined to provide dining for a larger party.

Guest Lounge

We have a well proportioned large Guest lounge with comfortable seating and an open gas fire with natural flames. You are welcome to use this room at any time during the day and in the evening. Firm cushions are provided on the sofa and high back fireside chairs. There is a table and chair for completing registration and for writing on our complimentary postcards.

We will meet and greet you in the Guest lounge, here we will chat with you about any specific needs you may have, we provide audio information in English (for those with a sight disability) in German, Dutch, Russian, French, and Hindi. We hope to include Spanish and Italian at a later date. We also have a welcome sheet in Braille and large print detailing breakfast times and what to do if the fire alarm is activated.

Bedrooms

Our bedrooms are individually furnished to a high standard and are en suite. One room has an exclusive bathroom. Detailed information and a description and photographs of all our bedrooms are on our website www.thegroveside.co.uk .

A room information booklet is available; information is also available in Braille and audio.

Each bedroom is supplied with white linen and towels, a hair dryer, complimentary beverage tray and toiletries, a spare blanket is found in the wardrobe. Our beds are normally made with duvets but we are happy to provide sheets and blankets (please let us know in advance) Our pillows are changed regularly and we can also provide anti-allergy if preferred.

You will also find a flat scene digital TV with 88 channels and radio and a radio alarm clock.

In the king room there is a trouser press and all rooms have a selection of magazines and books of interest.

Most of our rooms have window tables and chairs, the rooms with limited space have fold up chairs provided.

There is a dressing table, wardrobe and chest of drawers in all rooms.

The Guest house is centrally heated, the temperature in the bedrooms can be adjusted in each room to suit individual requirements.

Additional information

We take our risk assessment seriously and what to do in case of the fire alarm being activated will be explained on arrival, there are also written instruction in each bedroom. For those who have a hearing problem we can provide a vibrating alarm. Our audio welcome tapes also include fire safety information. We do not permit smoking in the house. We have an environmental policy which can be read in the foyer and on our website.

Breakfast is served between 7am and 8.30 am. However we are aware that some guest prefer to have a lie-in on holiday. We therefore offer room service between 9 and 9.30am for tea/coffee and toast. As there is no additional charge for this service we ask that both guests per double /twin room opt for one option or the other. Unfortunately we cannot offer this service on the day of your departure as you will need to vacate your room by 10am.

Evening Meals

We provide a set 2 or 3 course hot evening meal, between 6pm and 7pm these times have been organised to suit the majority of our guests (and their friends/family) as many like to enjoy evening entertainment at the local cinema or theatre or indeed visit one of the many Inns in Sidmouth, however we can provide a meat, fish or vegetarian salad between 7 and 8pm if preferred.

We are happy to cater for special diets or any particular likes or dislikes. Please advise us of these before your arrival.

Fresh Milk is provided in a cooler at the bottom of the stairs

We are happy to refrigerate any medication. We can also keep any perishables (such as clotted cream) in our fridge for a limited period.

Wi-fi is available free of charge and reception for mobiles is good. There is a phone available for national calls.

Laundry

We have a tumble dryer on the first landing and are happy to dry clothes if you have been caught in a heavy shower. Alternatively there is a public Laundry facility one mile away. We ask that clothes are not washed in the bedrooms.

Shops

We are situated just a few hundred yards away from the nearest shops and restaurant.

Leisure Facilities

We provide board games and cards in the Guest Lounge, active leisure pursuits such as swimming, walking, croquet, fishing, golf, cricket, bowls, pitch and putt and Lama walking are accessible locally. There is also a cinema and Theatre within walking distance of the Groveside.

Garden

We have a small dedicated garden for our guests (one step) with comfortable sun loungers, chairs and tables. We can also supply a gas BBQ for a small charge (£5.00) for you to cook and entertain your friends.

Running a guest house is something we all enjoy at the Groveside, seeing people relax and unwind from the stresses of everyday life brings us a great deal of pleasure.
